Thanks to twisty television plots and popular Vegas magic shows, hypnosis is one of the most fascinating yet least understood forms of therapy. Hypnosis is so much simpler than most people realise.

Hypnosis is an accepted form of medical treatment

Hypnosis has been an accepted form of medical treatment since the 1950s. Franz Mesmer brought it to public attention around 1770, but the earliest records date to ancient Egypt around 1500 BCE - where Imhotep used healing Sleep Temples as an early form of suggestion therapy.

What is the fundamental difference between psychotherapy and hypnotherapy?

Rather than dealing with the conscious thinking analytical brain, hypnotherapy accesses the subconscious where all feelings, emotions, and behaviours exist. The conscious mind has a filter called the Conscious Critical Faculty (CCF) which rejects incoming information that doesn't match previous patterns. Hypnosis bypasses this CCF and removes fears, beliefs, and phobias directly from the subconscious - quickly and effectively.

What is the most common reason people seek hypnotherapy?

ADHD, anxiety, depression, fears, phobias, perfectionism, self-sabotage, people-pleasing, inner critic. The range is interesting but never the same. People looking for alternative forms of healing when psychotherapy hasn't worked.

*The number of sessions required depends on the issue. Phobias require 3 sessions; anxiety 4-8 sessions on average.
